Step 1: First
of all, draw the outline of the tiger on the paper you have chosen.I
have drawn on an ordinary paper from a white notebook.I drew on it
because it is easier to erase unnecessary lines on it.But there are
problems with it like,if you draw too thickly, the grooves will get too
deep and they can't be removed. And also, the paper is too light.Repeated
erasing may result in tearing off the paper. So,choose the paper with
which you are most comfortable and familiar with.
Step 2: Identify
the lightest coloured region from the picture you have chosen to draw
other than pure white. In the picture of the tiger I have chosen, the side
region of the centre of the tiger's body and the area to the side of
the ear are lightest because of the light reflecting from those
surfaces. Now,identify the pencil shading corresponding to that light
colour since we are using only pencil. It will be better if you first try
out different shades with pencil starting from the lightest to the
darkest and give each real colour an appropriate shading from one of
those. Now,pick up the corresponding colour and shade the areas of the
entire figure which are other than white, with the lightest shade found.
Step 3: Now,draw
the key parts of the figure. As for my tiger, they include ears, eyes, nose
and the mouth part.Don't draw the stripes thickly now.If you want, you
can just draw the outlines of the stripes smoothly without shading them
thickly but I haven't even drawn their outlines. We will shade the
stripes in the next step. Before going to the next step, better make sure
that you have followed all the previous steps correctly and your figure
looks ok.
Step 4: As
I have said earlier, this step includes shading the stripes and adding
much details to the key parts like eyes, ears and over all face
area.Though it is difficult,it will be nice if we draw the tiger's
mustache(whiskers) as it looks more realistic.Drawing them is a
difficult task.Remember that, drawing them doesn't mean drawing their
outline as we do for all ordinary figures because the whiskers are so
thin and you can't just draw the outline and keep the centre part white
in colour. It doesn't make them look realistic. To draw them nicely, just
leave the area through which the whiskers pass white, without
shading that region and shade the area surrounding them. Now you have to
observe and identify various regions like the darkest region, light
fallen and shining regions in the figure and pick up the appropriate
pencil shade for them.Shade the tiger's skin smoothly, starting from the
lightest region followed by lighter, little darker and the darkest
regions of the figure. When you are shading a coloured area, apply that
shade not only to that particular area, but also to all the areas which
are darker than this particular area.As we have to shade the darker
regions anyway,it won't get things wrong. When you increase the darkness
and move on to shade a little darker region, don't apply that shade to
the areas of the skin which are lighter than the current area.Apply the
shade only to that particular area and the areas which are darker than
this area.Following this process, complete the shading of the entire
picture, identifying the lighter and darker regions of the figure and it
should indicate the light fallen regions also.
Step 5: And
finally,we have reached the last step to draw a realistic tiger. This
step includes drawing the background area.Just shade the background area
so that it will be nice and realistic but don't just draw the outlines
of plants in the background. It is not necessary that you put more effort
on drawing the background area.Just make the background a bit neat and
even over concentrating on background may result in your main tiger
figure looking less attractive. So,shade the background little and the
drawing is complete. If you want, you can draw a border to make
the drawing look like a photograph.
