Just to give you a background on my skin, I have very very very sensitive skin and is combination oily/dry depending on the areas of face (and time of year).
I like to prep at least a week before the event and I start off with my diet. As the saying goes "You are what you eat." and I totally agree with that saying. Whatever you consume, will be expressed by your body. I make sure I drink lots of Water, 2L of water every day (which is the suggested intake).
Honestly it does wonders for my skin, you definitely notice a more
radiant and hydrated glow on your face the next day. On another health
note, it prevents you from over eating during meals, which is another
plus if you want to look good in photos. During this week, I like to try
and stay away from sugars like candy and all the yummy desserts, and
especially any food allergies (dairy products make me break out). Eating
as much leafy greens as possible helps detox and rid of all the toxins
that may be in the body that contribute to your skin condition as well.
Before I put any mask on my face I like to exfoliate all the dead skin
cells off to prepare a clean and fresh canvas for my mask. This
increases the effectiveness of whatever future face mask you choose to
apply on your face. I use Skinfood's Black Sugar Scrub.
To treat any existing pimples on my skin, I like to dry them up with a clay mask. I personally love the Queen Julep Mint Mask.
I got mine at Sally's but I do believe they are found at several drug
stores as well. If I feel like my skin is super oily, especially in the
summer, I'll put this stuff all over my face. But since my skin is super
sensitive, most of the time I just put it on my problem areas and let
it dry for about 15 minutes. Once it's dry, I wash it off and follow
through with my daily skin care routine.
If it's a night before an event, and I have a random pimple show up, especially at times when I don't want it to, I use the Nexcare Acne Patch.
Literally this stuff has saved my butt when I have a pimple. I pop this
on and sleep with it overnight. The size of the pimple decreases
significantly and even some cases gone by the next morning.
Finally, getting loads of sleep during the week helps a lot with how
your skin looks and how you function as well (of course)! Try to get at
least 8 hours, and not going to lie, if I'm super tired I can sleep for
12 hours. It is bliss.
